Abstract

"The research project 'Bonuses, wage increases and fairness' analyzes aspects of a reasonable payment for work. In particular, it investigates under which circumstances high salaries or bonus payments for specific occupational groups are accepted as fair by the working public. An important part of the project is to investigate the effects of perceived inequities in pay on the performance and cooperation of workers. A central component of the project is a telephone survey of about 3,000 workers, including several vignettes (hypothetical scenarios). The report explains the survey design and the course of the survey, analyzes processes of sample selection, describes the computation of survey weights and presents the questionnaire used. From summer 2014 on, anonymously data are available via the Research Data Centre (FDZ) of the Federal Agency for Employment (BA) at the Institute for Labour Market and Employment Research (IAB)."
