次世代技術の選択と競争戦略（２） : 二次電池業界における既存企業が防御に成功するための要因の分析

Abstract

本研究は、技術の断絶期に、多くの新規企業が次世代技術を用いて市場参入しようとする中で、既存企業が防御するためには、どのような技術を選択すべきかを明らかにすることを目的として進められた。二次電池業界を分析した結果、既存企業が防御に成功するための要因としては、技術選択よりも、選択された技術のポートフォリオマネジメントが重要であることが明らかになった。どの次世代技術が主流になるかが不透明な段階で、いずれかの技術に絞り込むことは判断を間違えた場合に失うものが大きすぎる。そのため、複数の技術を手がけざるを得ない。その代わり、主流技術が明らかになった段階では、それら複数技術ごとの開発目的を明確するとともに、経営資源を大幅にシフトできるようなポートフォリオマネジメントが必要となる。このような技術ポートフォリオマネジメントを行うことができる背後には組織マネジメントがある。主流技術の見通しが不透明な段階では、各技術の開発に関して自律的に意思決定できるような組織マネジメントが必要であるが、見通しが立った段階では各技術を統合して意思決定する組織マネジメントが必要である。このように段階に応じて組織マネジメント方法を変更できれば、既存企業が防御に成功する可能性が高まるといえる。
