Abstract

L'auteur étudie les mécanismes effectifs présidant au choix du mode de transport en se limitant aux aires urbaines. Il décline ses objectifs en deux points : 1 - Accroître la pertinence de modèles de demande existants, en facilitant l'intégration de variables réellement explicatives de cette demande. Ne nous leurrons pas trop cependant : la principale difficulté à surmonter dans ce cas provient en effet de la quantification malaisée des variables à introduire dans les mo­dèles (1). 2 - De manière beaucoup plus fondamentale, notre étude tente de preciser le contour et le contenu d'une approche méthodologique nouvelle pour analyser plus adéquatement la demande des transports urbains. En ce sens, notre travail s'avère fécond, non seulement pour mieux élucider le problème de la demande, mais aussi en liaison avec celui posé par le choix des politiques de transports (stratégies alternatives) ( 2) .
