Quelles énergies pour les transports au XXI e siècle ?

Abstract

Après quelques rappels historiques, l'auteur a développé une vision prospective des diverses solutions possibles pour satisfaire les besoins en énergie du secteur des transports au cours du XXIe siècle. Pour les transports routiers, il ressort que deux grands types de réponses sont possibles : - celle, actuellement en vogue, d'un recours massif au nouveau « couple magique » qui serait constitué par l'hydrogène associé aux PAC (piles à combustibles). - celle, peu médiatisée, d'un large recours aux hydrocarbures de synthèse accompagné d'une forte pénétration de l'électricité par le biais de véhicules hybrides rechargeables. La thèse de l'auteur est que la seconde possibilité devrait l'emporter. Cette opinion repose sur une analyse économique qui fait ressortir les très importants handicaps de la voie hydrogène, handicaps qui, selon l'auteur, relèvent de la thermodynamique et ne pourraient donc être surmontés par les progrès des technologies
