Essai sur le comportement d'épargnant des agriculteurs

Abstract

Dans cet article, on étudie le comportement d'un échantillon permanent de ménages suivis pendant vingt ans. On montre que l'interprétation en terme de variabilité du revenu est insuffisante. Pour comprendre pourquoi les ménages d'agriculteurs ont un taux d'épargne élevé, il faut tenir compte du fait qu'ils sont obligés de financer un capital d'entreprise avec des moyens modestes. D'une façon complémentaire, on donne une interprétation théorique du comportement des ménages d'agriculteurs basée sur l'hypothèse du revenu relatif. En supposant que le taux d'épargne d'un ménage est lié non à son niveau absolu de ressources mais à sa place dans la hiérarchie des revenus, on peut expliquer les disparités de taux d'épargne constatées à un moment donné. L'évolution dans le temps peut aussi être interprétée en termes de revenu relatif mais les résultats empiriques obtenus sur ce point restent très limités.
