Abstract

L'OFCE propose dans la collection « Repères » un bilan annuel de l'économie européenne. L'édition 2019 s'inscrit dans une actualité particulière : 2019 est l'année des vingt ans de l'euro, une année d'élection au Parlement européen et l'année qui pourrait voir le déclenchement du Brexit. Revenir sur les fondements historiques, institutionnels et intellectuels qui ont prévalu à l'adoption de l'euro permet de mieux comprendre quels ont été les réussites et les défauts de cette monnaie. Les divergences européennes en termes de marché du travail et d'activité industrielle sont nombreuses. Elles pèsent sur la capacité des Européens à adopter une position commune sur les réformes à mener pour assurer une meilleure convergence européenne. L'ouvrage analyse aussi les réformes de la fiscalité des multinationales et des retraites en Europe. Malgré l'urgence de la question climatique, l'ambition européenne sur ce plan marque le pas. L'Union européenne est par ailleurs confrontée à deux autres défis : celui de l'immigration et celui de la transformation numérique. Toutes ces questions sont traitées dans cette nouvelle édition d'un livre déjà devenu une référence.
