Abstract

L'histoire globale a tendance à raisonner « en ligne droite » ; elle décentre le regard tout en maintenant souvent la causalité. On voit alors surgir des questionnements sur les origines du capitalisme en Asie à l'époque moderne ; or la distance géographique se double d'une distance temporelle et conceptuelle, qu'il faut analyser à travers des exemples précis. Les relations commerciales entre Hollandais et Indonésiens au xviie siècle, par exemple, ne sauraient se réduire à une forme de précapitalisme.
