La fréquentation touristique liée au tourisme de mémoire : près de 12 millions de visites en 2017

Abstract

Le ministère des armées, les collectivités locales, les nations ayant une histoire commune avec la France et le monde associatif entretiennent ensemble un important patrimoine mémoriel relatif aux conflits contemporains. Près de la moitié des structures valorisant ce patrimoine sont des associations dans lesquelles œuvrent des passionnés. En 2017, les lieux de mémoire ont accueilli près de 12 millions de visites, chiffre équivalent à l'année précédente. Par rapport à 2016, l'augmentation du nombre de visites des lieux de mémoire relatifs à la Seconde Guerre mondiale est venue presque compenser la baisse de la fréquentation des sites mémoriaux sur la Première Guerre mondiale. La Normandie, l'Île-de-France, les Hauts-de-France et le Grand-Est regroupent 87 % des visites.
