Un marché d'observation de la Terre depuis l'espace en mutation

Abstract

Le marché de l'observation de la Terre est actuellement en forte mutation. D'abord réservés aux institutions, les produits de l'imagerie satellitaire sont en passe de devenir un outil démocratisé. Ce changement de paradigme s'appuie largement sur l'innovation technologique que sont les constellations de petits satellites. De nombreuses start up cherchent ainsi à se positionner sur ce marché, encouragées par des coûts diminués de production et d'accès à l'espace et par les promesses du marché des services à valeur ajoutée. Face à cette concurrence nouvelle, les États et les grands industriels revoient leur approche de l'observation. Ces évolutions peuvent intéresser la communauté de Défense en matière d'emploi des forces et de fourniture d'information : des formats innovants pourraient permettre de diversifier les sources, tout en se conformant aux impératifs de coût et de sécurisation des données.
