Vitesse et linéarité du processus d’internationalisation des PME : vers une pluralité d’approches

Abstract

Cette communication analyse la trajectoire d'internationalisation suivie par les PME sous le prisme des approches théoriques classiques : le modèle d'Uppsala et l'approche born globals. L'étude de cas réalisée sur quatre PME manufacturières françaises met en avant la coexistence d'une pluralité de trajectoires, de rythme et niveau d'engagement divers. Plus spécifiquement, nos travaux révèlent l'existence d'époques d'internationalisation initiées tant par un changement majeur au niveau de l'équipe dirigeante que par une modification soudaine de la structure du réseau, de l'intensité concurrentielle ou encore des exigences des parties prenantes. Enfin, l'internationalisation ne s'effectue pas de manière linéaire mais est faite d'une succession de sauts d'étapes, réduction de l'engagement, dé- et ré-internationalisation au gré des expériences, opportunités et anticipations du dirigeant.
