Abstract

La désagrégation du système socialiste de distribution en Europe de l'Est a ouvert la voie à la pénétration sur ce territoire d'enseignes étrangères, notamment ouest-européennes. Cette influence commerciale remet-elle en cause le partage historique entre formats de grande taille et magasins de proximité ? L'article répond par l'affirmative en se référant aux mutations des formats de vente alimentaire en Pologne et en Bulgarie. Il montre que la prise en compte du contexte socio-économique et culturel local joue un rôle déterminant dans l'émergence de formats de vente « hybrides » et dans l'évolution future des commerces de proximité. Il essaie d'identifier les contraintes incontournables du développement de la grande distribution « importée » et nationale et esquisse les grands traits du modèle actuel de distribution et de consommation dans ces deux pays. Cette évolution semble pouvoir être décrite comme un processus combinant importation, adaptation et innovation.
