Abstract

Financial citizenship is a topic of relevance in today's society. Every citizen, no matter how old they are, must understand the importance of good financial practice so that greater well-being is achieved by all. Within this context, the extension project "Financial Citizenship in the Itajaí Valley of the University of Blumenau (FURB)" aims to disseminate financial citizenship to the population of the cities of Blumenau, Brusque, Gaspar, Indaial, Pomerode and Timbó, located in the state of Santa Catarina. The project's teachers work on two fronts: (1) Basic Food Basket and indebtedness reports to reach the adult population in the region; and (2) new teaching methodologies and strategies in public schools, in partnership with teachers of these schools, in order to give access to students in the final grades of elementary school to financial citizenship and mathematics. The results are positive, demonstrated through the great interest of local media and of public schools, as reported by the teachers involved. In addition, the project had its continuity confirmed for the year 2018.
