Abstract

Depuis plus d'un siècle, l'inflation est endémique au Chili. Avant 1972, elle représente une épargne forcée et elle reflète surtout les problèmes structuraux du pays : rigidité de l'offre et des exportations, goulots d'étranglement, forte propension à importer et luttes sociales que la politique de réformes des années 1960 ne parvient pas à endiguer. Après le coup d'Etat de septembre 1973, l'hyperinflation se traduit par une raréfaction de la monnaie et engendre un nouveau partage du produit national très défavorable aux salariés et aux paysans. Leur pouvoir d'achat a été amputé de plus de moitié en deux ans. En conséquence le marché intérieur et l'industrie nationale se sont effondrés. Le Chili se spécialise dans l'exportation des matières premières et des produits semi-finis.
