Abstract

Ainsi, confrontée à une motorisation en pleine croissance et à un étalement urbain difficile à contrôler, la Chine s'intéresse de plus en plus près à la Ville Compacte : en témoignent ces villes, comme Xiamen, qui "acclimatent" les grands principes de la compacité (Morand, 2017). Nous adoptons une approche résolument empirique pour tester, dans le cas des provinces chinoises, l'influence de la structure spatiale sur la motorisation et les émissions de polluants dues à la mobilité quotidienne. Après une revue de la littérature décrivant les principaux mécanismes à la source de l'interaction entre la structure spatiale et la mobilité quotidienne, nous présentons les sources de données et la méthode employée, pour finir par exposer nos résultats, qui confirment dans une large mesure les hypothèses de départ : la densité, mais aussi sa répartition dans l'espace, influent sur les comportements de mobilité des habitants.
