Abstract

Cet article présente un état des lieux des principales connaissances portant sur l'atténuation du changement climatique inclus dans le cinquième rapport d'évaluation du groupe de travail III du Groupe intergouvernemental d'experts sur l'évolution du climat (Giec). Le rapport souligne combien les marges de manoeuvre technico-économiques sont réduites pour respecter l'objectif de limiter l'augmentation de la température moyenne de la surface de la Terre à 2 °C si des politiques de réduction des émissions ambitieuses ne sont pas mises en oeuvre d'ici 2020. Il évalue également les potentiels sectoriels de réduction des émissions et aborde des questions émergentes, en particulier relatives au financement des trajectoires de décarbonisation. Le rapport insiste enfin sur la nécessité de mettre en oeuvre des politiques intégrées qui profitent des co-bénéfices des politiques climatiques (santé, sécurité énergétique, etc.) dont l'évaluation est plus systématique.
