Abstract

Ce texte traite des idées monétaires en France de François Ier à Louis XIV. La première section présente le contexte général de l'économie, des finances et de la monnaie dans le royaume de France. Les sections ultérieures présentent les idées monétaires développées de Malestroit à Boisguilbert en s'appuyant sur une grille chronologique et thématique. La période 1566-1578 est marquée par la controverse Bodin/Malestroit que l'on réévalue ici. Le moment de la réforme monétaire de 1577 et les décennies suivantes, jusqu'à Montchrestien et Gramont, permettent de focaliser l'attention non sur l'inflation mais sur les altérations monétaires, qui sont le thème central des écrits monétaires de l'époque, et de mettre en avant le rôle et les idées de Thomas Turquam. La période de Colbert, seule figure majeure en matière d'écrits monétaires au cœur du règne de Louis XIV, articule la systématisation d'une politique bullionniste à la montée d'une représentation commune chrysohédoniste. À cet égard, la remise en cause de cet ensemble d'idées et de pratiques par Boisguilbert constitue un tournant théorique majeur.
