Abstract

Les expéditions lointaines, qu'elles soient de haute altitude ou terres d'exploration, sont de plus en plus suivies par des prévisionnistes en météorologie, appelés souvent 'routeurs'. Ces derniers proposent leurs services aux guides désireux de prendre des décisions dans des conditions de progression les plus sécuritaires possibles pour eux-mêmes et leurs clients. L'assistance météorologique lie des experts de la haute montagne à d'autres experts chargés de les accompagner à distance grâce à leurs capacités d'analyse et d'interprétation de modèles numériques de plus en plus sophistiqués. Ces deux types d'experts font du couple sécurité-performance une alliance originale que l'on rencontre également dans d'autres contextes. La présente communication a pour objectif principal de décrire et comprendre la démarche opérée par un duo particulier constitué d'un prévisionniste et d'un chef d'expédition, le temps d'une tentative sur l'Everest. Le suivi de cette expédition - par voie d'ethnographie distante principalement - s'inscrit dans un projet collectif plus large, cinq autres expéditions de natures différentes ayant déjà été suivies et en cours d'analyse à ce jour.
