Abstract

L'article contextualise le refus par Pareto de la formulation du théorème des productivités marginales par Walras. Ce refus est expliqué au regard du désaccord méthodologique entre les deux auteurs quant au rôle de l'économie sociale que Pareto considère comme hors du discours scientifique. On montre que Pareto préfère fondre son économie pure et son économie appliquée dans le discours plus large de la sociologie au sens où les lois économiques dépendraient des lois sociologiques. Cette différence méthodologique conduit Pareto à ne pas accepter les recommandations d'économie sociales avancées par Walras sur la seule base des résultats de l'économie pure dont le théorème des productivités marginale constitue une illustration.
