Abstract

Loin d'être concurrents, taxis et transports collectifs sont souvent complémentaires, les collectivités locales, qui subventionnent leur réseau de transports collectifs, font souvent des économies en confiant à des taxis plutôt qu'à des services réguliers d'autobus le soin de transporter leurs administrés à certaines heures où dans certains endroits, par exemple en heure creuse ou en bout de ligne. Les taxis sont aussi utilisés pour offrir de la mobilité à certaines catégories de la population, là où les transports publics sont déficients : ramassages scolaire, personnes à mobilité réduite, etc. Les formes que prennent les contrats qui lient les taxis aux autorités organisatrices des transports varient sensiblement d'un pays à l'autre. Nous donnons des exemples en France, en Suède et aux États-Unis.
