Abstract

"Le pouvoir est au centre du dispositif analytique de Hobbes. Il le définit comme une capacité présente d'obtenir un bien apparent dans le futur et l'analyse d'un point de vue nominaliste comme pouvoir d'un homme sur un autre homme. Hobbes montre que les rendements du pouvoir sont croissants, que la recherche du pouvoir est sans limites, si ce n'est la mort et que c'est pour tenter de la repousser que les hommes le recherchent. Il y a diverses sortes de pouvoir, mais le plus grand est de constituer autour de soi une coalition d'hommes dotés de pouvoirs, une Union. Comment la constituer? Hobbes se pose la question d'un marché du pouvoir. Cependant, si on accroît son pouvoir en achetant le pouvoir d'autres hommes, on le renforce également en se soumettant à un homme de pouvoir. Dès lors, on comprend pourquoi les hommes se soumettent : ils sont gagnants en pouvoir."
