Abstract

Il est convenu de dater les origines du libéralisme du milieu du XVIIIe siècle en France. Le livre de Simone Meyssonnier, La balance et l'horloge , Montreuil : Éditions de la Passion, 1989, repousse en amont cette formation et met en évidence un courant libéral non capitaliste qui bascule, avec les physiocrates, dans un ordre social confondu avec l'ordre du marché. Nous avons demandé à deux spécialistes de la physiocratie, Bernard Delmas et Thierry Denials, de discuter cette thèse, et à Simone Meyssonnier de répondre, dans un débat qui pose le problème du rapport entre science économique et philosophie sociale, entre science et éthique.
