Abstract

This study carried out with a sample of 166 French human resource management professionals aims to analyze ethical judgment in the whistleblowing decision-making process during the recruitment phase. HR managers occupy a central place in French organizations since they are the guarantors of good practices and compliance with the Sapin 2 law. The dilemmas presented reproduce the six original scenarios of Jones (1991) in the specific context of recruitment. The results obtained, following a qualitative analysis implemented through Alceste, show the emergence of four main components of judgment regarding the intention of denouncing unethical practices: values and morals, respect for rules and procedure, the quest for performance, and finally cost control. © 2023 Authors.
