Abstract

L'intégration du système financier à l'échelle de la zone euro a toujours été considérée par les autorités comme étant une priorité et une composante essentielle de la politique économique européenne. Dans cet article, nous nous proposons dans un premier temps de définir le concept d'« intégration financière ». Ensuite, nous évoquons quelques initiatives récentes visant à favoriser le processus d'intégration financière en Europe. Enfin, nous passons en revue les principaux arguments économiques avancés pour justifier l'intérêt porté par les autorités européennes à l'intégration financière, en insistant non seulement sur ses vertus, mais aussi sur ses principales limites. Étant donné que l'intégration financière pourrait avoir des effets secondaires indésirables, les pouvoirs publics devraient suivre de près (et éventuellement réguler) sa dynamique.
