Abstract

Through the study areas of the medieval city of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi (Aude), new tourist strategies can be seen through the management, preservation and creation of a landscape that is both local and recreational. How to think about sustainable tourism through the planning, management, conservation and communication of landscape projects to visitors, in order to protect the environment and establish a policy of sustainable development within one of the poorest departments of France? Sustainable tourism must satisfy tourists and provide them with a unique, but also useful experience, by raising awareness of sustainability issues and encouraging them to adopt best practices. Sustainable development is taken into account through the creation of national or regional natural parks. However, sustainable tourism requires the implementation of sustainability practices and criteria, and tourism management is committed to this. Since then, this communication has been the subject of a book chapter available on HAL.
