Abstract

The article discusses some of the issues faced by the global economy in the 2010s. In particular, ideas about monopolization of the global economy and its split into antagonistic blocks have been subjected to a critical analysis. Author believes that one possible explanation for the prevalence of such views is the still popular (but not very relevant to contemporary political and economic realities) perception of competition as the opposite of cooperation. This leads to excessive pessimism about the future of the global economy, makes it difficult to understand the current economic challenges, and creates problems in the development of an appropriate economic policy. In the author's view, one of the possible ways to adapt the theoretical toolkit to the changing global economic landscape is to use the concept of coopetition. This would provide an opportunity to look at the development of the global economy of the XXI century from a new relevant angle.
