Antiracism for sale: exploring 40 years of evaporation in France

Abstract

Notre recherche explore la manière dont un véritable engagement contre le racisme s'est évaporé des campagnes antiracisme en France. Notre analyse porte plus précisément sur les affiches et tracts produits entre 1980 et 2018 par les quatre associations qui dominent le champ de la lutte contre le racisme en France (SOS Racisme, LICRA, MRAP et LDH). Nous explorons dans quelle mesure et par quels mécanismes leurs campagnes (re)produisent ce que le théoricien critique de la « race », David Theo Goldberg nomme l' « évaporation raciale ». Au travers d'une analyse visuelle critique, nos résultats préliminaires mettent la lumière sur quatre logiques d'évaporation au sein de ces campagnes : la dés-historicisation du problème raciste, l'effacement des sujets touchés par le racisme, la privatisation des causes du racisme et enfin l'encouragement à l'inaction. Notre présentation tâchera de restituer les mécanismes visuels, discursifs et affectifs qui participent de la consolidation de ces quatre logiques à travers le temps. Nous rendrons compte également des interactions et des effets d'accumulation entre ces logiques, tout en portant une attention particulière à leur dimension genrée.
