Abstract

La démocratie est entendue comme un système politique conduit par les choix des électeurs. Mais que signifie choisir en démocratie ? Comment définir les alternatives ? Quelles règles adopter pour produire un choix juste et efficace ? La littérature économique traitant de ces questions s'est étoffée dès l'éclosion du programme de recherche du public choice et de son approche dominante, l'école de Virginie. À travers cet ouvrage, l'auteur propose d'étudier les apports des précurseurs de cette école, qui ont montré l'incapacité de l'État à atteindre ses objectifs, fournissant une justification à sa mise en retrait.
