Abstract

Dans le cadre des Rendez-vous de l'histoire, du 10 au 14 octobre à Blois, consacrés à « La puissance des images », Nathalie Sonnac, membre du CSA, analyse, dans une tribune au « Monde », la menace que font peser les infox (« fake news ») sur la démocratie. Avec 1,6 milliard d'utilisateurs, Facebook est devenu la source d'informations privilégiée des internautes, à qui elle donne gratuitement accès à des millions d'informations. Le moteur de recherche Google est, lui, une formidable porte d'entrée à tous les sites de la Toile. A eux deux, ces géants captent près de 80 % de la croissance des ressources publicitaires en ligne. Dans cet univers concurrentiel, comment saisir l'attention des utilisateurs ? Comment générer des recettes publicitaires ? De la campagne électorale américaine au village macédonien transformé en ferme à clics en passant par le succès du site Thefakenewsgenerator.com et, en France, la loi sur la lutte contre la manipulation de l'information, la question des infox (« fake news ») a envahi le débat public, négligeant parfois la dimension économique de la question.
