Abstract

De la cité idéale de Platon à la position originelle de Rawls, en passant par l'état de nature des philosophes du xviie siècle ou encore par « l 'état primitif » d'Adam Smith, le recours aux fictions sillonne l'histoire de la pensée économique soit directement, soit à travers les influences qu'elle subit. Ces fictions ont alimenté de multiples raisonnements en prenant des formes diverses : états imaginaires, conditions d'existence hypothétiques, conjectures sur l 'histoire passée et sa marche supposée. Loin d'être anecdotique ou de révéler un usage simplement instrumental de la littérature, la persistance de l'usage des fictions en économie conduit à questionner le rapport qu'elle entretient avec d'autres disciplines.
