Abstract

The paper focuses on the geographical location of wealthy households, which represent a target for policies concerning the attractiveness of residential areas. The study is conducted on the basis of data on the geographical location of households subject to the solidarity tax on wealth (Stw) and on the characteristics of French departments (Insee data). By specifying Spatial Durbin Models, we study the relationship between the dimensions of the latent structure of departments and the Stw variables, considering spatial autocorrelation. The results reveal a strong appeal of the most urbanized areas and, surprisingly, a very slight dislike to crisis areas but no significant impact regarding tourist areas.
