Abstract

The desertification of town-center shops is concomitant with many problems that cities have to face: housing in the town-center, accessibility and mobility, maintenance of public or medical services, cultural and social activities, enhancement of a territory. Among the tools for revitalizing town-centers, one is rapidly developing: many towns hired a town-center manager. What are his functions? In what type of organizational schemes? Is this profession uniform in all cities? Based on 17 semi-structured interviews with town-center managers in France, this communication aims at providing the first elements of response to these three research questions. Managerial implications and future avenues of research are discussed.
