Abstract

Improvement's promises of a society based upon a dynamic of continuous progress have not been held. This process of progress has contributed to reinforce our contemptuous and mutilating ignorance of life and our subjective essence, plunging individuals into ever more instrumental relationships and our society in huge ecological, social and economic challenges. Within this framework, the New Way of Working (NWoW) appears, carried by new promises and enthusiastic speeches : here comes the era of freedom-form companies, based upon the collaboration and the autonomy of employees who finally find there a fulfilling professional context and source of happiness. Do this NWoW finally offers a collective and individual perspective of hope in our postmodernist society, allowing us to free ourselves from constraints and alienation at work ? The critical reading that we offer allows us to understand how this NWoW comes from the same thought patterns and paradigm as the founding theories of management, and how it seems to further reinforce society's ills rather than bringing new and credible alternatives. However, there is no time left. The extent of collective damage to the entire social fabric and the loss of being in its psychic structure open up an emergency and alarm debate about our future as humankind.
