Abstract

The purpose of the article is to show that Pellegrino Rossi's political economy can be considered republican, in the modern sense of the term. Indeed, it does not rest on the idea that freedom would be built against the state, but on the contrary that freedom can be achieved only through the State. The first part explains that Rossi develops an original methodological approach that establishes relations of complementarity between economics and politics. The second part shows that this methodological approach leads him to grant to the State an essential place and role in the social organization, which justifies qualifying his political economy republican.
