Abstract

This article focuses on the influence of school leadership on the effectiveness of the public service provided by schools. In this context, stratified meta-analyses and a meta-regression analysis were carried out based on a series of 28 studies published between 1993 and 2018. The meta-analyses highlight significant heterogeneity of results among the selected studies. They also show that school leadership has little empirical effect on the effectiveness of the public service provided by schools. However, they make it clear that the effects of school leadership are greater in countries where decision-making powers are largely vested in schools.
