Abstract

While the value of the "division of labor" has been widely discussed, Adam Smith's analysis of working conditions has often been overlooked. The division of labor requires the cooperation of men to create products and services, thereby improving productivity and expanding the scope of trade. It presupposes the existence of funds for investment, but also for the maintenance of productive employees. It is then a question of developing a favorable combination of the factors of production. Unemployment can only be a cyclical phenomenon, but working conditions must be re-examined, with the abolition of slavery, the improvement of working conditions (qualification, education, urbanization, mobility and mode of remuneration). Owners may seek to exploit their subordinates by creating employers' unions, which must be prohibited, as this is a form of monopoly. The search for human fulfillment, the refusal of misery, even at the cost of the intervention of a pragmatic and hedonistic State, are then in the program of the singer of liberalism.
