Abstract

Le nouveau volume de la revue Confluences Méditerranée poursuit les réflexions entreprises sur l'Iran par les auteurs des numéros précédents. Ainsi, la problématique du changement des perception(s) occidentale(s) de l'Iran avant et après la Révolution islamique de 1979, soulevée par Jean-Paul Chagnollaud, dans le recueil d'articles sur la « virtualité » de la puissance régionale iranienne, devenue incontournable au Moyen-Orient et en Méditerranée depuis les années 2000, reste toujours d'actualité : « l'Iran du Shah était un État avec lequel il fallait compter mais la perception qu'on pouvait en avoir en Occident était différente de celle d'aujourd'hui puisqu'il était un de ses alliés privilégiés sur lequel les États-Unis s'appuyaient pour leur politique dans la région ». Cette dimension géopolitique de la rupture entre l'Iran allié de l'Occident et l'Iran révolutionnaire devenu rival voire ennemi n'a pas eu que des conséquences pour la définition des relations diplomatiques entre l'Iran et les États occidentaux. Elle a également eu des effets significatifs sur la production de la connaissance universitaire à propos de l'Iran en Occident.
