Abstract

This book coordinated by Stéphanie CHATELAIN-PONROY, Patrick GIBERT, Madina RIVAL, Alain BURLAUD presents the contribution of major authors to the structuring of the field of public management and allows us to apprehend its singularity. Public management is intimately linked to the themes of public power, democracy and their limits. It is therefore more than a field of application of corporate management with which it maintains a complex relationship, made up of borrowings and distancing but also contributions, particularly when the company is questioning its social and environmental responsibility. It also borrows, from its own angle, from many other disciplines: political science, sociology, law and economics in particular. This book endeavours to draw a faithful portrait of public management through the "great authors" who have contributed to its construction. Their diversity bears witness to the constant changes that have taken place in the field, to its formation over a long history and to the many contributions of different disciplines. Composed of five parts, the book offers keys to a better understanding of the work of each of the 34 "great authors" selected and invites you to (re)read them. The result of a collective work by 48 university contributors, it is intended for both young and experienced researchers, students, and also for public actors or citizens concerned with a rigorous approach to public affairs.
