Abstract

By examining the literature and two illustrative cases, this chapter seeks to understand how it is possible to develop collective competence, rooted in situations and consistent with the organizational setting. What dynamics exist between competence and managerial levers? And how do those dynamics evolve over time? To answer these questions, this study focuses on one managerial lever: team rules. This chapter provides a better understanding of the unusual dynamics that form between collective competence and rules.
