Abstract

The literature on territorial anchoring does not take into account the influence of entrepreneur preferences. Researchers in entrepreneurship and SMEs suggest that they play a role in decision-making. We examine the personal link between the entrepreneur and his/her territory, and if it influences the territorial anchoring of the SME. Based on five case studies conducted from territorially anchored companies, we show that the links of the entrepreneur to his/her territory can be emotional, moral or opportunistic. They usually have an influence on the anchoring that can take various forms : innovation anchoring, heritage anchoring or societal anchoring. The nature of the link between the entrepreneur and his/her territory contributes to making the anchoring sustainable, reproducible or volatile. The managerial contribution is mainly directed to those in charge of territorial governance.
