Abstract

The question of NATO's role as a global policeman of peace is partly a response to the major role of the United States in the proper functioning of the current market economy system. It highlights the modalities and costs of NATO enlargement, the issue of unfair national burdens in NATO and the creation of a high-tech reaction force. Today, NATO has some difficulties in assuming international crisis management with the European Allies. However, by becoming a peacekeeper, the benefits to the international community would far outweigh the costs. NATO's power can be an effective tool for enforcing and respecting UN-sponsored peace treaties.
