Abstract

The urban agglomeration of FadaN'Gourma in the eastern part of Burkina Faso covers 350 km². Its municipality had a population of approximately 207,855 people, including 66,173 inhabitants for the town of FadaN'Gourma in 2019 (INSD-Est, 1996-2006 : 222 ; Projection DAHANI. I, 2020). This population uses several types of means of transport for intra-urban travel. This growing need for mobility led to the birth of motorcycle taxis as a means of public transport. Also the central market of FadaN'Gourma being the main one in the city, all the population frequent it for various needs. It is in this context that the central market of FadaN'Gourma impacts on urban mobility by amplifying public transport with motorcycles. The present investigation, which was essentially based on field research by collecting primary data. It aims to analyze the influence of the central market of FadaN'Gourma on the use of motorcycle taxis as public transport for urban mobility. Thus, an examination of the use of motorcycles as a means of public transport in relation to market activities reveals that there is an interdependence of the two sectors and that the central market is the main catalyst of the public transport sector by motorcycles in FadaN'Gourma.
