Abstract

The remuneration of sportsmen and women depends on several criteria: the results, the sport practised, its media coverage, the image of the sportsmen and women themselves and other criteria such as the geographical areas where their sport is practised. Football, basketball, boxing, golf, F1 and tennis are favoured over other sports. However, there are "market stars" who obtain income from several sources that are particularly important in relation to their basic salaries. The figures given are very important, often shocking, in view of the inequalities that exist within a sport.
