Abstract

Le travail de conception engage la participation de plusieurs acteurs qui produisent chacun des représentations des usagers et des objets qui leurs sont propres. Parmi eux, les designers constituent une catégorie professionnelle encore mal connue des chercheurs autant que des industriels. Une étude ethnographique du travail de plusieurs designers industriels nous a permis d'identifier le contenu de la production du travail de design et de saisir, à travers le discours et les pratiques, le régime d'existence que la profession accorde aux objets industriels. Nous verrons alors dans quelles conditions la qualification de ces objets est, pour les designers, le moyen d'expliciter leur intervention, dans le cadre de leurs échanges avec leurs interlocuteurs, et, comment les productions intermédiaires que sont les dessins et les maquettes constituent les bases de travail sur lesquelles la communication et la collaboration avec ces autres acteurs s'instaurent.
