Il y a presque vingt-trente ans, lors des enquêtes que nous avions menées sur la notion de métropolisation, et sa version anglo-saxonne, metropolization, metropolisation ou metropolitanization, nombreuses furent les remarques, pour ne pas dire les critiques violentes sur ce recours à des barbarismes ou à des anglicismes indignes de la langue française et de l'Université (Lacour et Puissant, 1999).
