Abstract

La dégradation d'un sol regroupe l'ensemble des modifications physiques, chimiques et biologiques qui nuisent aux fonctions et services qu'il peut potentiellement fournir. Nous présentons dans cet article des éléments de cadrage sur la définition et la mesure du coût économique de la dégradation des sols, nous proposons un outil permettant de comparer les différentes dégradations de manière unifiée et nous illustrons ces éléments sur des études de cas. Le focus sur les fonctions et services rendus par les sols permet de faire apparaître, dans une analyse multi-dimensionnelle, la grande variété des impacts que les dégradations entraînent. Cette variété implique toutefois que la traduction en coûts économiques n'est pas en l'état opérationnelle pour guider les décisions privées et publiques. Nous proposons des recommandations pour avancer sur ce point en conclusion.
