Abstract

Context – Grassroots volunteer organizations' role in society is growing, leading to increasing governance and evaluation requirements from their stakeholders. Objectives and originality – This research focuses on the role of specific and spontaneous governance mechanisms in defining GVOs' impact. Results – Perceived impact by stakeholders (in this case, students) can be explained in part by mutual engagement and influence and stakeholders' contribution. Academic implications – This study helps to understand the link between governance and performance and to define the notion of GVOs' impact. Managerial implications – This research proposes a framework for analysing and evaluating GVOs impact that can be reused by organisations but also by their partners.
