Abstract

Le présent document réuni deux notes. La première, récemment publiée par l'INSEE, vise à éclairer la signification du sur-développement du célibat paysan. C'est chez les petits et moyens paysans que le célibat forcé est anormalement élevé ; à cet égard les inégalités se sont accrues dans l'agriculture par rapport à l'entre-deux guerres. Le domaine des chances matrimoniales s'avère être un champ privilégié d'analyse de la stratification sociale agricole. La seconde note constitue une mise au point stratégique sur la paupérisation paysanne et reprend dans cette optique certaines données déjà diffusées dans des publications antérieures. Ce que l'on sait de l'évolution de l'agriculture française au cours des 20 ou 30 dernières années ne conduit pas à réfuter la thèse d'un accroissement de l'infériorité économique et sociale de nombre de paysans.
