Abstract

Cet article examine la forme optimale d'un contrat d'assurance contre la sécheresse dans lequel l'indemnité est basée sur le coefficient pluviométrique observé dans une zone géographique déterminée. On en déduit la demande optimale d'assurance lorsque le contrat proposé permet au producteur de choisir un coefficient pluviométrique garanti et un niveau de couverture. Lorsque le risque de sécheresse et les autres risques productifs sont indépendants, ou lorsque la fonction d'utilité du producteur est quadratique, un tel contrat permet un partage efficace des risques et le niveau optimal de couverture est égal à la productivité marginale de l'eau de pluie. Si les deux sources de risque sont stochastiquement dépendantes, le niveau optimal de couverture est inférieur ou supérieur à la productivité marginale de l'eau de pluie selon la corrélation des risques et le comportement de prudence du producteur.
