La location d’articles de luxe : une expérience ambivalente sur le plan identitaire pour les millennials ?

Abstract

Cette recherche a pour objectif d'explorer un phénomène en fort développement et jusqu'ici peu étudié par la recherche en marketing : la location dans le secteur du luxe. Plus spécifiquement, nous nous intéressons au rôle de l'article loué dans l'expression possible des soi multiples chez les consommatrices adeptes de cette nouvelle pratique, et au rôle des phases d'appropriation temporaire et de restitution de l'objet dans ce jeu identitaire. Nous mobilisons les dimensions de l'expérience de consommation (Roederer, 2012) pour analyser les premiers résultats d'une étude qualitative basée sur l'analyse de récits d'expériences de location d'articles de luxe. Nos résultats montrent que la location de luxe semble constituer une expérience ambivalente sur le plan identitaire pour les millennials, et que la dépossession de l'objet constitue un moment critique de l'expérience. De premières implications managériales sont suggérées et des voies d'approfondissement de la recherche sont proposées.
