Abstract

Plusieurs décennies ont été nécessaires pour que l'on comprenne qu'il était indispensable de promouvoir une recherche en économie agricole dans les pays en voie de développement. Divers modèles de fonctionnement d'une telle recherche ont été testes, mais il apparait maintenant qu'elle contribue d'autant plus efficacement au développement, qu'elle repose sur une capacité autonome de réflexion et d'analyse au sein des pays concernés. L'exemple de l'Afrique de l'Ouest montre que cet objectif est difficile a atteindre. Sa réalisation nécessite une grande clairvoyance de la part des autorités de tutelle et une coopération internationale bien adaptée et de longue durée.
